Joseph Haydn composed the set of six "Apponyi" string quartets (Op. 71 and Op. 74) in 1793 between his two famous concert tours to London. The commission was funded by Count Anton Georg Apponyi, a wealthy Hungarian nobleman, music patron, and fellow Freemason who was related to Haydn's longtime patrons, the Esterházy family. Count Apponyi paid Haydn 100 gold ducats (equivalent to approximately $50,000 or 1.7 million baht today based on gold weight of 11 ounces) for the privilege. In exchange for this payment, Apponyi secured exclusive rights to the music for one year, allowing him to perform the works privately in his salon and delay their public release until late 1795.

This is Haydn at his peak brilliance. No. 1 sparkles with witty, conversational interplay among the instruments, while No. 2 pairs warm lyricism with intense variations. The collection culminates in No. 3, The Rider, famous for its muscular galloping rhythms and an explosive G-minor finale that triumphantly shifts into G major. Together, the Op. 74 trio stands as one of the most vibrant and powerful achievements in the entire chamber music repertoire.

Tickets: No tickets will be issued for concerts. Admission to the music room on the day of the concert will be in accordance with the sequence of receipt of payment (ie, who pays first goes in first and can select their desired seat).

Etiquette: Photos may be taken during the encore only. During the main performance please put your phone in silent mode and put it away.

Children: Children aged eight years and older may attend the concert depending on the suitability of the program. 

Cancellations and credits: Credit will be allowed for future concerts in the event of illness. Please don't come if you're feeling sick or recovering but still coughing.
