Andrei Kudriakov proved himself as a pianist of great musicianship and remarkable stamina in his recent performances of the complete Chopin Nocturnes at Eelswamp in January this year and both Tchaikovsky Piano Concertos  in May. 

Andrei began formal training at age four at the “Rainbow” Music School No. 8 under Elena Mukhametova. His career quickly gained momentum with major competition victories, including the Grand Prix at the All-Russian Pianists Competition in Tolyatti (2000) and the International Kabalevsky Competition in Samara (2001). He went on to study at the Samara Music College under Larisa Parfenova and later at the Saratov State Conservatory with Professor Albert Tarakanov, graduating with honors and earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

Kudriakov refined his artistry through masterclasses with pianists such as Lang Lang, Denis Matsuev, and Mikhail Pletnev, building a repertoire that spans solo works, chamber music, and more than twenty concertos.

Andrei performed the complete Chopin Nocturnes at Eelswamp in January this year, establishing himself as a first rate pianist. Don't miss these performances.

Beethoven cello sonata no. 5, op. 102 no.2

The last in the set of five cello sonatas, composed in 1815, a period of sparse compositions but consummate originality, as this sonata demonstrates with its jaunty first movement, sublime slow movement - the only full slow movement in the set of five - and a brilliant contrapuntal finale.

Kabalevsky cello sonata op.71

A remarkable work of the 20th century, full of lyricism and driving rhythm. This is a magnificent work which I discovered on an album of other Russian cello sonatas while preparing last year's program. I was blown away by it. Very happy to have Alexandre and Dimitri play it for us.

Rachmaninov cello sonata op.19

Composed in 1901, the same year as his famous Second Piano Concerto, this is Romantic chamber music at its peak—unapologetically sentimental, rich in melody, and demanding true virtuosic firepower. A masterpiece of the cello repertoire. Nothing more to be said.

Dimitri and Alexandre are two fabulous French musicians. They met at Lyon Conservatory and have been playing together for more than a decade. They first visited us in May 2014, playing all of the Beethoven Cello Sonatas, and have come every pandemic-free year. Their visits are always a high point of the year. Don't miss them!

Joseph Haydn composed the set of six "Apponyi" string quartets (Op. 71 and Op. 74) in 1793 between his two famous concert tours to London. The commission was funded by Count Anton Georg Apponyi, a wealthy Hungarian nobleman, music patron, and fellow Freemason who was related to Haydn's longtime patrons, the Esterházy family. Count Apponyi paid Haydn 100 gold ducats (equivalent to approximately $50,000 or 1.7 million baht today based on gold weight of 11 ounces) for the privilege. In exchange for this payment, Apponyi secured exclusive rights to the music for one year, allowing him to perform the works privately in his salon and delay their public release until late 1795.

This is Haydn at his peak brilliance. No. 1 sparkles with witty, conversational interplay among the instruments, while No. 2 pairs warm lyricism with intense variations. The collection culminates in No. 3, The Rider, famous for its muscular galloping rhythms and an explosive G-minor finale that triumphantly shifts into G major. Together, the Op. 74 trio stands as one of the most vibrant and powerful achievements in the entire chamber music repertoire.

The six cello suites of Bach were first transcribed for viola by Samuel Lifschey (principal violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra), in the 1920's. Since then, they have become a major part of the solo viola repertoire. In this concert Tasana will play the first three suites. He will perform the last three suites of the set later in the year. 

Tasana Nagavajara started learning the violin at the age of 9.The turning point in his musical education came in 1989 when he was granted a full scholarship by the International Menuhin Music Academy (IMMA) to study with Alberto Lysy and Johannes Eskar in Switzerland. He thereby gained the golden opportunity to become a member of the Camerata Lysy Gstaad which performed under Lord Yehudi Menuhin in most major European cities, USA, Canada and South America. He performs regularly at Eelswamp.

*Stem separation is an AI technique that separates piano and orchestra recordings into two stems: piano and orchestra. We use the orchestra stem as background for the piano soloist. We did this in April with Andrey Gugnin playing Brahms First Piano Concerto. It was a smash hit. This time we will have improved stereo technology for a fuller orchestra sound.

Andrey Gugnin has a special relationship with Eelswamp. He was the first musician whom I invited from overseas, performing in March 2014. He has visited us almost annually since then. This will be the 12th anniversary of his first visit to Eelswamp. During those years, we have seen Andrey's career skyrocket, winning three prestigious international competitions, releasing numerous CDs on Hyperion and Steinway and Sons labels. Most recently, Andrey won the 2023 German Piano Award and the Dubai International Piano Competition.

Eunhee Baek is a Korean pianist. She came to Eelswamp last year to perform the Liszt Harmonies poétiques et religieuses and gave two brilliant performances. 

Eunhee obtained her Konzertexamen at the Berlin University of the Arts in the class of Mi-Joo Lee. She continued her studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg  with Jacques Rouvier, and with Boris Petrushansky at the International Piano Academy Imola. She has won prizes in at least seven international competitions, including two devoted to Liszt. See the list at the top of this page.

Guillaume Durant is a French pianist. He studied in Lyon where he completed the Diplôme d’Études Musicales and graduated with distinction. He continued his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, studying with Denis Pascal, Varduhi Yeritsyan, and chamber music under Claire Désert and Amy Flammer. He currently works at the Berlin University of Arts.
