The six works for solo violin of JS Bach are one the pinnacles of his creative output and one of the greatest challenges for a violinist. They are not merely technical challenges, but explore the greatest depths of passion and soulfulness of Bach's music. Menuhin recorded the set in his teens. The collection is one of the most famous sets in recording history. He described the music as "...the most masterly and expressive works ever written for solo violin".

Leoš Čepicky
